The Santa Monica Conservancy is offering guided tours of the history, renovation and sensitive expansion of the 1908 workman’s cottage on Sunday, August 18 from 3 to 5 p.m. on 16th Street in Santa Monica.
The evolution of a small workman’s cottage from the late 19th century has unfolded with ever-changing additions and modifications to become a very comfortable 21st century home that reveals the many layers of its history. Yet, from the street, its Victorian architecture remains intact.
Guests will discover how the owners, Hilda Weiss and Wayne Lindberg, collaborating with restoration architect Michele McDonough, made design decisions that balance respect for the original architecture with contemporary livability.
The garden, designed by FormLA, combines ease of care in the front with drought-tolerant plants, a side garden with vegetables, herbs and fruit trees and a back garden with a water feature.
A wine and cheese reception will be held in the beautiful garden. The owners, architect and landscape architect will be present to mingle with guests.
