Not even the coronavirus pandemic could keep AYSO teams off the field in 2020. Despite securing only one of its venues (Will Rogers State Park) for the fall season, Region 69 nevertheless accommodated 400 players in a social distance, practice-only, 11-week program, with all COVID protocols in place.
The 2020-21 season was dedicated to former coach, board member, referee and activist George Wolfberg, who died February 5, 2020. It was through his efforts that AYSO was able to secure Will Rogers State Park as a venue in the late 1970s.
Since parks and schools have remained closed, Region 69 continued at Will Rogers with a nine-week Winter Program and an 11-week spring program. In all, 550 players have enjoyed the outdoors once a week in the region, which includes the Palisades, Topanga, Brentwood and parts of Santa Monica. Registration for Fall 2021 opens May 17. Visit www.ayso69.org for details. EXTRA tryouts are currently underway.
