School District board incumbent Steve Zimmer, narrowly defeated his opponent Kate Anderson in the race for the 4th District L.A. Unified School District seat.
Zimmer captured 52.10 percent of the vote total to Anderson’s 47.89 percent. Anderson’s campaign was supported by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s Coalition for School Reform. This school district race made national headlines because of a $1 million donation from New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and was seen by many as a showdown between education unions and Super PACs seeking reform.
