April 7, 1924 – September 2, 2018
A resident of Pacific Palisades for nearly 57 years, Virginia Martin Chalmers passed away peacefully surrounded by family at The Covington, her retirement home in Aliso Viejo.
On April 7, 1924, Virginia (Virgie, Ginny) Pembroke Martin was born to Andrew Smith Martin and Elizabeth Crowder Martin. She was the youngest of seven children. They lived in Kansas City, Missouri, where she attended Westport High School.
Virginia met her sweetheart, George Chalmers, while working for North American Aviation in KC. Married in 1945, they lived a blessed life together for 61 years.
In 1954 they settled in Pacific Palisades. She lost her beloved George in 2006. At 88, Virginia courageously began a new life at The Covington in Aliso Viejo.
She is survived by her children, Scott (Elizabeth St Clair) of Manhattan Beach, Janet (Phil Painter) of Newport Beach and Douglas Chalmers of Stockton, along with her six granddaughters, Alison Chalmers, Brooke (Jeff Benson), Julia Chalmers, Annie (Sean Sullivan), Emily Painter and Katie Chalmers.
A private family celebration of Virginia’s life will take place at a later date. Remembrances may be made to a favorite charity.
