Reality Bites
I am very surprised to find out how many real estate developers, agents and people whose businesses are directly linked to development are members of the community’s Land Use Committee and Pacific Palisades Community Council. The residents of The Highlands (opposing a proposed senior healthcare center) never had a chance. When your area rep is a real estate developer (even a retired one), you really do not have representation. My heart goes out to the residents of The Highlands.
Coffee
Because I used to manage a coffee shop I did the same calculations as you about how much hot (or iced) coffee we buy in The Village, and I got a much bigger figure—maybe 5,000 cups a day. And this is before every Caruso store starts giving it away.
More Coffee
The day after I read your coffee piece saying it was safe to drink up to five cups a day, there was a California court settlement that cups will now have to carry a cancer warning like cigarette packs. Something nasty is released during the roasting. In this crazy world, if you can’t trust Starbucks or Coffee Bean, who can you trust?
Another Cup
I do not know if your article about coffee in the Palisades was a joke, or serious, or a warning, or what. But it made me long for the days when we were happy with coffee from a big can.
Out of the Past
Your “Out of the Past” picture in the 3/29 issue showing former Councilman Marvin Braude included the usual request for information on where the people in the picture are today. There also are unrecognizable city workers paving the street but clearly Braude is the one intended in the request. Didn’t you know that he died in 2005? For shame.
Gloria Be
How sad to see an anonymous and tasteless slur of Gloria Allred in your 2 Cents column. Even its supposed quote of Chuck Todd rang false. Allred has no need to seek out clients; they come to her, because they see that she stands up for people like them, and they want her skill and compassion on their side. Good for them and for her. And if the press notices, good for it, too. We should all work so hard and successfully for justice.
Crash
A car crashed in the 16000 block of Sunset during the recent rain. The first responders: two LAFD Station 69 fire trucks to extricate the driver from his partially crushed vehicle and three Palisades Patrol vehicles to divert Sunset traffic so as to assist the rescue. Thank you, gentlemen! Thank you all!
Dear Ryderz
Dear Ruthless Ryderz: Why not start being part of this community? Register as an educational charity. Teach road safety. Give kids bike lessons. If you’re not a gang, stop behaving like one and begin to give back.
