Palisadians are invited to view two new solo shows opening Friday, March 25, at Topanga Canyon Gallery: “Plastic Petals” by abstract artist Moises Mendoza, and “Pentimento,” an all-media contemporary group show.
“The Topanga Canyon Gallery is welcoming the spring with an optimist’s rendering of the season by Moises Mendoza, and a group presentation of how art reflects the unavoidable force of change in ‘Pentimento,’” according to the gallery.
“Plastic Petals” by Moises Mendoza uses the medium of acrylic on wood to create botanical abstractions that are rendered with bright and fluorescent colors, bound by the color yellow.
“‘Plastic Petals’ … explores the feeling of an approaching spring through a super saturated lens,” the gallery shared. “The use of yellow has long been associated with happiness and optimism.”
Mendoza shared that he hopes “this new series … instill[s] a small dose of joy for the everyday blues.”
“Pentimento” is a group exhibition, showcasing 20 artists’ interpretations of an Italian term that refers to the visible trace of an earlier painting beneath the layer of paint, sometimes revealed over time.
“In a broader sense, it implies the changing of one intention to another and can give the viewer insights into the evolution and thought process involved in the making of a piece of art,” according to TCG.
TCG presented “Pentimento” on Saturday, March 19, with a reception in the gallery’s outdoor patio. Guests were invited to enjoy wine, appetizers and art in support of Marquez Charter Elementary School. The event was hosted by Delbar Azari and 20% of the proceeds were donated to the school.
The two shows will run from Friday, March 25, through Saturday, April 10; 2 to 7 p.m. on Fridays, and 12 to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
An opening reception for both shows will be held on the outdoor deck on Saturday, March 26, from 4 to 7 p.m.
