Palisadian Kevin Feige—president of Marvel Studios—executive produced “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” one of the major sequels to look forward to this year.
“Multiverse of Madness” started production in the U.K. in late 2020, and paused in January 2021 due to the heightened COVID-19 pandemic. The film was slated to wrap this spring and release March 25, but was delayed for “additional photography” and “reshoots,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“Insiders say that Cumberbatch and company are undertaking six weeks of shooting, if not more, working six days a week,” The Hollywood Reporter said. “Sam Raimi remains as helmer, and ‘Loki’ head writer Michael Waldron is still on board writing the new material. It is unclear what actors in addition to Cumberbatch are on the call sheet.
“One insider says about two weeks are dedicated to principal photography that wasn’t completed during the initial, U.K.-based shoot due to what is described as actor availability issues. The insider also dismissed concerns that the reshoots were related to retooling the story.”
Many are looking forward to the Marvel Cinematic Universe kicking back into gear. In the film, Benedict Cumberbatch reprises his role as Stephen Strange, as he faces recurring visions after the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
Joining Cumberbatch are Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, Benedict Wong as Wong and more.
“In ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before,” according to Marvel. “Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.”
“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” is slated to premiere in theaters on Friday, May 6.
