The show must go on—and that remains true even if there’s changes in the cast and a postponement.
Tickets are now on sale for Theatre Palisades’ latest show at Pierson Playhouse, “Nunsense,” a musical that will now run September 9 through October 2 on Fridays, Saturday and Sundays.
“Into every theatrical production a little drama rains down, but we have had a monsoon,” Theatre Palisades wrote on its website. “Cast changes, COVID protection and a plethora of other things led us to postpone the opening of ‘Nunsense’ and, at the same time, we are adding more shows for a total of 12 performances.”
The show, written by Dan Goggin, is directed by Alta Abbott, and produced by Martha Hunter and Sherman Wayne.
“‘Nunsense’ is a hilarious spoof about the misadventures of five nuns trying to manage a fundraiser,” according to a synopsis shared by Theatre Palisades. “Sadly, the rest of the sisterhood died from botulism after eating vichyssoise prepared by Sister Julia Child of God. Thus the remaining nuns—ballet-loving Sister Robert Anne, befuddled Sister Mary Amnesia, the Mother Superior Sister Regina and mistress of the notice Sister Mary Hubert—stage a talent show in order to raise the money to bury their dearly departed.”
The cast features Lindsay Kazan as Sister Leo, Julie Hinton as Sister Amnesia, Jacquelyn Levy as Sister Mary Hubert, Savannah Ludwig as Sister Robert Anne and Valeria Sullivan as Reverent Mother Superior.
Kazan was the latest cast member to join the ensemble, sharing that she was “ecstatic to be making her Theatre Palisades debut.”
“She is a musical theatre/opera crossover with a degree in vocal performance from CSUN,” according to an email from Theatre Palisades. “Lindsay portrayed roles such as Elle Woods (‘Legally Blonde the Musical’), Cinderella (‘Into the Woods’) and Adele (Die Fledermaus’), to name a few.”
Performances are slated to take place on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., as well as Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $27 for general admission, $25 for seniors and students.
Current COVID-19 precautions in place include proof of completed vaccination (at least 14 days prior to the performance) and the wearing of masks inside the theater.
“With catchy songs and irreverent comedy,” Theatre Palisades synopsis concluded, “‘Nunsense’ is sure to keep audiences rolling with laughter.”
