The Pulitzer Prize-winning play ‘Rabbit Hole’ will open Friday, August 26 at 8 p.m. at Theatre Palisades’ Pierson Playhouse, 941 Temescal Canyon Rd. Playwright David Lindsay-Abaire’s work, also produced as a film starring Nicole Kidman, is a compelling portrait of family conflict told with poignancy, depth and humor. ‘It is the story of five people and the effect the death [of a child] has on them as they walk the fine line between grieving and getting on with their life,’ says the play’s award-winning director, Tony Torrisi. He acknowledges that the ‘subject matter is a little darker,’ but ‘it’s not about death, it’s about living.’ Rather than be saddened, audiences will likely ‘be cheered by the resiliency of the human spirit,’ Torrisi says. Torrisi’s last local production, ‘The Diviners,’ won nine awards, including Best Play and Best Director, at the Theatre Palisades Awards ceremony two weeks ago. The talented cast for ‘Rabbit Hole’ includes Samuel Huntington (Howie, the boy’s father), Lara Doucette (Becca, the boy’s mother), Michael Conoscenti (Jason), Catherine Lydon (Nat) and Lauren Dykes (Izzy). More than 100 actors auditioned for the roles. Performances will run through October 2, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. For tickets ($16-$20), call (310) 454-1970 or go to theatrepalisades.org. Parking is free.
