Yet another successful spring sports season came to an end at St. Matthew’s last week. The Falcons’ co-ed tennis team made the Pacific Basin League semifinals, Jorge Lazenby advanced to the individual singles championship and the duo of Caroline Stevens and Oliver O’Connor reached the finals in doubles at UCLA’s Sycamore courts.
In golf, St. Matthew’s finished third in the Pacific Basin League Championships at The Lakes at El Segundo, totaling 227 strokes.
Sixth-grader Henry Mariscal was the fifth-place medalist (out of 57 golfers) with a 1-over par 30, two shots behind winner Max Wimmer of Windward. Mariscal averaged a team-low 32 over 10 matches at Rancho Park Par 3, the VA Heroes Course and The Lakes.

Fielding its first softball team in six years, St. Matthew’s went 5-5 and Jessie Silletti’s walk-off single completed a seven-run rally in the Falcons’ 14-13 quarterfinal victory over Archer.
In boys volleyball the Falcons were 8-2 in the Pacific Basin League’s B Division. They swept Turning Point, 25-13, 25-18, in the quarterfinals before falling to Willows in the semifinals.
Four St. Matthew’s 6th-graders and four 7th-graders competed in the Pacific Basin League Track and Field Championships at West L.A. College.
Katharine Doble, Fiona Fisher, Emily Graves, Lauren Rowen, Milla Klostermann, Asher Rawlins, Eliza Sandifer and Saskia Santos combined for many personal-bests.
