At its annual Spiritus Award dinner at the California Club, the Social Service Auxiliary recently honored Marcia Hayden for her many years of philanthropic work. Proceeds will go to the Sisters of Social Service.
Pacific Palisades residents who are members of the auxiliary include Gracia Goade, M.D., Patricia Lorne, Dolores Fritzsche, Pat Ofiesh, Barbara Overland, Claire Shea, Carol Smith and Betty Smith. Patricia Dowling, who works at En Route Travel on Sunset, is also a member.
The Sisters’ mission is to serve the poor with a focus on women, children and struggling families. Local Sisters run Regis House Community Center in Los Angeles, Camp Mariastella in Wrightwood and The House of Ruth in Los Angeles. They also provide pastoral care for USC Medical Center, Vitas Hospice Center and Good Samaritan Hospital.
Their “Mother House” is located in Encino, where they also provide housing and care for elderly nuns. They receive no funding from the Catholic Church, and are dependent on donations to continue their work.
