The game was riding on the foot of Colton Peffer last Thursday afternoon in the Palisades High boys soccer team’s playoff opener against Canoga Park and the sure-footed senior captain buried his penalty kick into the back of the net, setting off a wild celebration behind the goal after the Dolphins’ shootout victory in the wildcard round.
Palisades looked like it would win in regulation when Kia Kazemi-Nia gave them a 1-0 lead early in the second half, but with time running out the 17th-seeded Hunters netted the equalizer to force overtime, where the teams battled through 30 extra tension-filled minutes with no decider.
Goalkeeper Ethan Todd made two saves in the shootout, the second giving Peffer a chance to send the 16th-seeded Dolphins into yesterday’s first-round against No. 1 Marquez.
