Shirley Trentman, a 43-year resident of Pacific Palisades, passed away on September 15 at 83 years old.
Born on December 8, 1935, in Delphos, Ohio, to Antoinette (Scharf) and Arthur Trentman, Shirley moved to San Diego in 1957 before settling permanently in Pacific Palisades in 1976. Shirley lived in Pacific Palisades with her sister and brother-in-law (Sabrina and Bob Schiller) and their family—caring for her nieces (Abbie, Sadie) for the length of their childhood, followed by her care and unbridled love for her grandnieces (Lucy, Ona, Amelie) and grandnephews (Charlie, Archer), all of whom she absolutely adored.
Shirley was a staple around Palisades town with her weekday trips to Ralphs, Chase Bank, Bay Pharmacy, the post office, and restaurants like Terri’s and Café Vida. She made friends everywhere she went with her cheerful personality and friendly disposition, and always remembered detailed conversations she had with everyone.
She also loved going to the Palisades July 4th parade and watching the parade (especially the skydivers) from her consistent spot at the Village Green. She was a loving, wonderful, consistent presence for her family—and Pacific Palisades more broadly—and will be sorely missed by many.
In addition to the family mentioned above, Shirley is also survived by her brother Howard Trentman, her nieces Becky and Kathy, eight additional grandnieces and nephews, and her caregiver and friend, Marva.
We are sad to have lost Shirley after her short but mighty battle with cancer and in lieu of flowers, encourage a donation to Stand Up 2 Cancer in Shirley’s name.
