Shakespeare Santa Monica returns for its 10th year anniversary season with outdoor performances of “Twelfth Night” and “The Taming of the Shrew” on the tennis courts at Reed Memorial Park, 7th Street and Wilshire Boulevard.
The company is comprised of aspiring student artists and professional actors unified by their commitment to lifelong training in the classics. They train with Louis Scheeder of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Jean Louis Rodrique of UCLA and John Farmanesh-Bocca, former directing fellow at The Juilliard School.
“We believe Shakespeare is most successful when it becomes a part of the fabric of our community,” Farmanesh-Bocca said. “Accessibility will ensure that future generations have the opportunity to experience the poetry, power and timelessness of Shakespeare’s theatrical work.”
Shakespeare Santa Monica continues to educate every summer, and has given away over 1,500 complimentary tickets to local youth organizations.
All performances are at 8 p.m. on tennis court number one. “Twelfth Night” plays on Saturdays (August 17, 24 and 31) and Sundays (August 18 and 25). “The Taming of the Shrew” can be seen on Thursdays (August 15, 22 and 29) and Fridays (August 16, 23 and 30). Tickets are $20, free for kids under 16. Contact: shakespearesantamonica.com.Shakespeare Company
