While the Palisades High varsity football team has its sights set on its first City Section championship, running back Daniel Anoh is eyeing an accomplishment of his own: the school’s single-season rushing record. It is currently held by Innocent Okoh, who amassed 1,965 yards and 19 touchdowns in 12 games as a senior in 2016.
Through four games this fall, Anoh has already run for almost 400 yards and nine touchdowns—so the mark is in reach provided Palisades makes a deep playoff run, which is exactly what Anoh is hoping for.
Okoh, now a senior tailback at Presentation College in South Dakota, was the City rushing leader in 2016 and Anoh would like to top that list season also. While Okoh averaged 8.0 yards per carry in 2016, Anoh is averaging over 11. He is also well ahead of his predecessor’s pace in touchdowns. Through four games in 2016, Okoh had five rushing TDs and two receiving TDs for a total of seven. Anoh, meanwhile, already has nine rushing TDs and two receiving for a total of 11.
Can Anoh make history and break Okoh’s record? Time will tell.
