Palisadians can look out for the third and final season of producer Chuck Lorre’s “The Kominsky Method,” which is set to premiere Friday, May 28, on Netflix.
The Golden Globe-winning comedy-drama series first premiered in 2018 on Netflix and stars actors Michael Douglas, Alan Arkin, Sarah Baker, Nancy Travis and Kathleen Turner throughout the years. The show follows Sandy Kominsky (Douglas) as a former actor-turned-acting-coach and his agent Normal Newlander (Arkin) from their homes in California and New York.
The show’s third season is expected to unveil “a new chapter … for Sandy as he deals with a difficult loss, a daunting financial obligation, an important reunion and a major career boost,” according to Netflix.
In an interview with GoldDerby, Lorre said he never anticipated anything when he initially pitched the show to Netflix and was struck by the opportunity to create it at all. Lorre described his creation of the show as “a labor of love,” and has voiced his appreciation for having the opportunity to write without censorship, without time limits and to extend a story through a television series.
“In my entire career, I have never experienced a response like the one I’ve gotten and continue to get on ‘The Kominsky Method,’” he said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “People really seem to be responding to it and it’s ridiculously gratifying.”
News of the show’s final season was announced on March 24 of this year.
“At this stage I can’t imagine getting up in the morning and not having the ability to write and make a show,” Lorre told Deadline in 2020. “It’s such a gift to be able to do that. I don’t want to take it for granted. I get to make a show, and make things happen, and present them and see if people enjoy them. I don’t want to give that up. To do what? To walk around the mall?”
The show’s second season has been rated 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and boasts an average Tomatometer of 90%. “The Kominsky Method” is rated TV-MA.
