After both teams won their Western League football openers in impressive fashion, the stage is set for archrivals Palisades and Venice to clash for a 53rd time Friday at Stadium by the Sea.
Over the last seven seasons Venice has posted the most league victories (24), followed by Palisades (22). The Gondoliers are the only league foe with a winning record against Palisades under Coach Tim Hyde but the Dolphins have won two of the last three meetings, including a 24-17 road win last year.
“In our league they’re the measuring stick,” Hyde said. “We’ve had three years in a row of classic fourth-quarter battles with them so we’ll try hard to make it four.”
Venice’s attack is led by senior quarterback Luca Diamont, who has thrown for 971 yards and 10 touchdowns and rushed for 565 yards and six scores. Everson Bozeman has run for 672 yards and 12 TDs and averages 8.6 yards per carry. Donovin Moore Jr. has 22 catches for 234 yards.
The JV game kicks off at 4 p.m. tomorrow, followed by the varsity game at 7.
