The Palisades High baseball team began defense of its Western League title last week with a pair of victories over Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies at George Robert Field. In the first game Jacob Herrera had three hits and two RBIs, Jabe Payne had two hits and Jake Moore, Matt Gottesman, Jack Woods, Kyle Grassl and Zach Ritts each added a single as the Dolphins blanked the Unicorns 10-0 in six innings. Grassl had eight strikeouts with zero walks in four no-hit innings.
Two days later, the teams were at it again and this time the home team exploded for seven runs in the last two innings to prevail 9-2. Herrera, Moore, Payne, Grassl, Tate Foxson, Alex Denham and Zach Gresham all had hits, Woods stole two bases while Ritts (five strikeouts in four innings) and Nate Akiba (three strikeouts in three shutout innings) were stellar on the mound.
Last Saturday, Palisades had Chatsworth on the ropes before losing 3-2 in extra innings. Grassl hit an RBI double and Akiba had two steals.
