‘The Ropin‘ Fool’ | Will Rogers State Historic Park
Will Rogers Ranch Foundation has invited the community to celebrate the 100th anniversary of “The Ropin‘ Fool” on Saturday, October 8, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Will Rogers State Historic Park, located at 1501 Will Rogers State Park Road—marking the return of “Movies in Will’s Backyard.”
The evening will feature the silent movie, “The Ropin‘ Fool,” as well as “Life Begins at 40”—both of which star Will Rogers.
“Come try your roping skills. Ropes and roping available for kids of all ages,” according to an event flyer. “Meet two-time Guinness World Record holder and cowboy trick roper Will Roberts.”
Festivities will also include Will Rogers trivia and prizes, picnicking, popcorn, and churros. Parking will be free after 4 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and low chairs.

Awards Ceremony | Palisades Branch Library
The Friends of the Palisades Library Summer Creative Writing Contest awards will return to an in-person ceremony after two years on Zoom on Thursday, October 6, beginning at 4 p.m. in the Palisades Branch Library community room.
“Actors Christine Kludjian and Bill Jones return for an in-person performance of the winning stories by students in grades one through 12,” according to information shared on behalf of the library before the event.
This year’s contest, which ran from June 10 to September 6, featured the theme Bouncing Back.
Each participant will receive a voucher for McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams, while winners in first, second and third place will receive gift certificates to DIESEL, A Bookstore.

‘Evening of Honor’ | Brentwood
American Legion Ronald Reagan – Palisades Post 283, in coordination with MVAT Foundation and Heroes Linked, will host an Evening of Honor on October 6 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel.
The event is billed as “an evening with Medal of Honor recipients connecting the veteran community for professional advancement.” A 30-minute panel, focused on business networking and mentorship, will feature Clinton Romesha, James McCloughan and Gary Littrell. The panel and ensuing Q&A will be moderated by MVAT Foundation Board Vice-Chair Bob Jerome.
“This event is provided free to the veteran community courtesy of American Legion Ronald Reagan – Palisades Post 283,” according to the event’s website.

Paul Revere to Host Annual 5K Walk/Run | Pacific Palisades
Paul Revere Charter Middle School invited the community to participate in its seventh annual Revere 5K Walk and Run Fundraiser on Sunday, October 9, at 8 a.m. The event will take place on campus this year.
“Students, staff, parents, siblings, friends and families will run, jog or walk a 5K on the Paul Revere campus to raise funds,” according to the school. “Funds will supply the [physical education] department with new wrestling mats, volleyball nets, [a] high jump set and more … 100% of the proceeds go to our school.”
Students who participate will get a free pass on the mile-run during their P.E. period and be entered in a raffle to win a Paul Revere hoodie.
The 5K costs $10 for students to sign up, and $20 for family and friends.
