Shirts that go around: At the last Palisades Optimists Club meeting, Wally Hasting auctioned off the sweatshirt that he won at the March Chamber Mixer for the club treasury. President Jody Margulies snapped it up for $40, saying it said everything you need to know about living in Pacific Palisades.

At the same meeting, Bill Bruns, former editor of the Palisadian-Post, recalled how a colleague, Bart Bartholomew, working as a photographer for the Los Angeles Times, got caught up in the Rodney King riots 25 years ago.
A mob set upon him and beat him, and he was only saved by a local kid saying “he is just doing his job.” It turned out, thanks to a special investigation of the riots produced by A&E TV network, that the hero was a Palisades Charter High School student, who made the long bus journey into the riot area every day. More than 50 people died in the 1992 riots.
