Former Palisadian Kurt Russell will join current Palisadian Bradley Cooper, along with Vin Diesel, Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana, in Marvel’s next installment of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise.
Directed by James Gunn, “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2” is more character-driven than its epic predecessor. With underlying themes of family, fragility and loneliness, the tone for our galactic warriors is more humanistic than heroic this time around.
Set to the backdrop of “Awesome Mixtape #2,” Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they span the cosmos and uncover the mysteries surrounding Peter Quill’s true lineage.
The film, which promises big laughs and a soft emotional center, still packs its sci-fi punch with franchise newcomer Russell, who plays Ego—a living, breathing, walking, sentient planet.
A force of questionable identity, Ego may be who Quill—aka Star-Lord—has been looking for his entire life.
Returning as everybody’s favorite space-traveling garbage picker, Cooper, who is currently working on his directorial debut film—a retelling of the classic musical “A Star is Born”—took time out of his busy schedule to provide the voice of Rocket Raccoon.
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” blasts back into theaters May 5.
