Friends, classmates, teachers and faculty members continue to pay their respects to Palisades High soccer player Shane Thomas, who passed away August 15 after a morning training session with his U19 club team in Chino Hills. He was 17.
News of Thomas’ death sent shockwaves through the community and teammates gathered that night to set up a memorial as close as possible to the field at Stadium by the Sea, where the senior-to-be scored many of his team-high 18 goals last season.
The temperature reached 111 degrees at noon, about which time Thomas was reported missing. He was not breathing when teammates found him. Police personnel began CPR and he was taken to Chino Valley Medical Center, but he could not be revived.
