Longtime Palisadian Glen Howard Millbank passed away on March 30, 2017 at the home of his daughter, Jill. He was born on Oct. 17, 1941 in San Marino, California where he lived with his parents, Howard and Bonnie Millbank, and his brother, Robert, until his graduation from San Marino High School.
Glen attended Whittier College where he received his degree in political science. In 1960, he joined fellow Whittier College students for a semester at the University of Copenhagen. A highlight of this experience was a train trip through East Germany and into East and West Berlin. It was during this time in Denmark when he met his future wife, Elaine Palmer.
Glen and Elaine married and settled in Whittier. Glen went on to study business and finance at USC after which he joined United California Bank. In 1973, he became branch manager of UCB in Santa Monica and his family moved to the Highlands in Pacific Palisades.
Glen’s most remarkable banking years were as a lending officer at First Interstate Bank in downtown Los Angeles. He took a year off to manage the Roadium Swap Meet in Torrance and then back to banking for a few more years before semi-retiring as a day trader in the stock market.
Throughout his life, Glen had a passion for the great outdoors. He took every available opportunity to backpack with friends and family over passes into the backcountry of the eastern Sierras. When the children were young, the family was packed in on horseback. Those were wonderful years.
Another of Glen’s passions was studying and learning about the universe and discussing theories with anyone who shared his interest. He taught a children’s class on the special theory of relativity. Glen’s greatest joy was being with his grandson Tyler. Spending time with Tyler and taking him on adventures always made Glen’s day.
Glen leaves behind his daughter Jill Crocker, her husband Daniel, son Paul Millbank, his wife Linda, brother Robert Millbank, grandson Tyler, step-grandsons Evan and Matthew, and the friends made over his lifetime.
