A weeklong overnight film camp for high school students (grades 9-12) will be held August 12- 17 at the Aldersgate Retreat Center, 925 Haverford Ave. The cost is $425, which includes deluxe accommodations and gourmet food.
The Cal-Pac United Methodist summer camp will be run by Reverend Dr. Hilly Hicks, who will teach the basics of filmmaking: writing, producing, directing, acting, cinematography and editing. Campers will also shoot and edit their own movie.
Film camp will also include Bible studies and worship experiences based on current movies. At the end of the week, campers will show their films at a Hollywood-style film festival.
Hicks, the pastor of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in San Bernardino, grew up in the movie business. He played Lewis in “Roots” and worked on “MASH,” “Good Times,” “Hill Street Blues,” “One Day at a Time” and “The Rookies.”
