Ellen Donna Rocklin Izaguirre, universally known as “Cookie,” passed away at her home in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, on Jan. 26 after a brief illness.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on Nov. 2, 1951, and moved to Pacific Palisades in 1956. She attended Palisades Elementary, Marquez Elementary and Paul Revere junior high, and graduated from Palisades High School in 1969.
After her graduation from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1973, Cookie joined the Peace Corps and served in La Esperanza, Honduras, where she met Ramón Izaguirre. Ramón and Cookie were married on Sept. 3, 1977, in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
After her stint as a Peace Corps volunteer, she joined the professional staff, managing the Peace Corps program in Honduras, serving as training director for many years. During her career, she mentored countless volunteers and staff members and is remembered fondly by the many people she helped over the years.
She is survived by her husband, Ramón Izaguirre of Tegucigalpa, Honduras; her daughters, Gail Izaguirre of San Francisco and Jennifer Izaguirre of Guanaja, Honduras; and her siblings, Sydney Rocklin (John Bigelow) of Oakland, California, Tom Rocklin (Barbara McFadden) of Iowa City, Iowa, and Bob Rocklin (Joan Rocklin) of Eugene, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her father, Sol Rocklin, and mother, Suanne Rocklin.
