Palisadian Ben Affleck can be seen in the Adrian Lyne-directed upcoming thriller “Deep Water,” which will become available for streaming on Hulu.
The film is slated to go straight to streaming services after being pulled from the Disney theatrical release calendar. “Deep Water” was originally set to release in theaters on January 14.
The film, based on Patricia Highsmith’s 1957 eponymous novel, stars Affleck alongside Ana de Armas as the two take on the roles of Vic and Melinda Van Allen. The story, set in the town of Little Wesley, follows the “loveless marriage” of Vic and Melinda.
“To avoid a messy divorce, Vic agrees to allow Melinda to have affairs, as long as she doesn’t leave the family,” according to a synopsis by Collider “Vic eventually becomes jealous and decides to try and win his wife back and attempt to rekindle the spark through dangerous psychological warfare.
“Vic then becomes the prime suspect in the disappearance of Melinda’s lovers as the couple play mind games with deadly results. A tale of psychosis in the idyllic facade that is American suburban life, where things seem perfect on the outside while actually are quite broken and twisted on the inside.”
Author of the novel, Highsmith is an award-winning thriller and crime writer who penned “Strangers On A Train,” “The Talented Mr. Ripley” and “The Price Of Salt”—all of which have been adapted into films.
The script was co-written by Sam Levinson (“Euphoria”) and Zach Helm (“Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium”) and directed by Lyne, who returned to the director’s seat after a 20-year hiatus.
“Deep Water” will also feature Jacob Elordi, Tracy Letts, Rachel Blanchard, Dash Mihok, Lil Rel Howery, Kristen Connolly and Jade Fernandez.
The film will be available to stream on Hulu in the United States, and global streaming will be available on Amazon Prime Video, according to Deadline.
A new release date has not been announced.
