The Palisadian-Post has teamed up with longtime community members Maryam Zar and Steve Cron to present the Pali Podcast. Each month, we will bring you an interview, hosted by Zar and Cron, highlighting extraordinary lives you might not otherwise have a chance to meet.
This month, the Pali Podcast sat down with new Los Angeles Police Department Senior Lead Officer for Pacific Palisades, Brian Espin.
Espin was born and grew up in the San Fernando Valley until his family moved to Venice, where he graduated from Venice High School in 1997.
While at Venice High School, he started the junior lifeguard program. When he turned 18, he tested for a position as an LA County lifeguard.
As he tells the story in our podcast, it took him five attempts, but what he learned was to never give up.
After being an LA County lifeguard for a while, he decided he wanted to inverse his career more to law enforcement so he joined the LAPD and has held several roles since.
He has always been involved with the Westside and when the opportunity arose to put his hat in the ring for Palisades SLO, he did it.
After a 28-day rotation that was granted to five applicants, Espin got the job.
“My personality and drive has always been committed to being of service to people,” Espin said, and that spirit comes through in an easy conversation with the new SLO.
His parting message? “If you and the neighbors can communicate with issues on your street, we can come together with a plan to attack these issues and deter crime in the area,” he said.
“The more eyes we have out on the street and residents being visible in our community the more we can see something and say something.”
