Palisadian Chris Schoop will host Summer Tennis Prep (STP) at 944 Lachman Lane from June 10 through the first week of August, giving kids a chance to improve their skills, make new friends, and gain confidence for their upcoming tennis seasons.
Schoop, who began playing tennis at age 6 and was taught by his mother, Mary, introduced his STP program last summer. He formulated the idea while coaching the boys and girls tennis teams at Windward School, where he worked for 10 years.
“It was always amazing to me that players who were anxious about making the team or trying to move up on their respective teams did not know some very basic things about what could improve their games dramatically,” Schoop said.
“Knowing how and where to hit your volleys in doubles, the value of being able to keep a ball in play more than five or six times, and basic singles and doubles strategy were just a few of these things.”
Classes will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and will have a minimum of three kids and a maximum of six. There will be two instructors for every class. For more information, call (310) 968-9539.
