Ghana’s international musician and global activist, Rocky Dawuni, will be appearing in Europe for a two-week run of dates this month that will take him to Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Greenland. The Palisadian has been invited to perform at the legendary Afro Pfingsten Festival in Switzerland and the Katuaq Festival in Greenland. He will return to Europe in July for a summer tour performing at the Summerjam, Montreux Jazz and Weedbeat festivals.
Dawuni will be backed by his all-star Los Angeles-based band, which includes Michael Hyde (Ziggy Marley), Edward Dixon (Lauryn Hill) and Jamon Laws (Ronnie Laws).
He was invited by the Red Cross of Kenya to play alongside top Kenyan stars for the Chagua Peace Concert in Nairobi that was an integral part of Kenya’s efforts to maintain peace during its recent election. As an ambassador for the UN Foundations Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, Dawuni attended the Global Forum, which took place in Cambodia in March, where he addressed and sang for dignitaries from around the world.
His upcoming album, “Afro Roots,” captures Dawuni’s unique fusion of Afro Beat and Reggae. He lives with his wife, Cary, a professional photographer and broadcast producer, and their daughter Safiyah in Pacific Palisades.
