If someone had told Palisades High girls basketball coach Adam Levine before Saturday’s game at Chaminade that the Dolphins would have the ball with a chance to win or tie in the closing seconds he would’ve taken that scenario no questions asked. After all, the Eagles were ranked in the Top 20 in California and the Dolphins were without their top scorer, senior Jane Nwaba.
Trailing by two points with 11 seconds remaining Palisades was on the verge of an upset. The Dolphins got the ball in the hands of their hottest shooter, Sammie Arnold, who drove into the lane and put up a shot that hit the backboard with two seconds left on the clock and Chaminade held on for a 51-49 win.

“We thought we had their worst defender on Sammie, she drove to the basket and she got a good look,” Levine said. “Foul or no foul? It could’ve gone either way, but I can’t walk out of here unhappy given the way we competed. You couldn’t ask for a better playoff prep than this and we have one more [next week] versus Orangewood Academy.”
Arnold led the Dolphins with 15 points and eight rebounds, Alexis Pettis had 11 points and Demonnie Lagway added 10.
Palisades returned to league action Monday with a 57-8 win at Fairfax and traveled to second-place Hamilton yesterday.
“Our main goal is to go undefeated in league,” Levine said.
