It’s no secret Pacific Palisades has an abundance of talent sprawled throughout the town.
The Pacific Palisades Library Association is looking to highlight such talented individuals with the launch of its new Writers, Artists and Musicians Series at Palisades Branch Library. The program—which is open to the public—will begin on Thursday, December 1, with Palisadian Martin Short.
“We are positively thrilled to return with live programming in the Community Room in such a big way,” Pacific Palisades Library Association President Laura Schneider said in a statement. “Martin Short is a national treasure but those of us in the Palisades are especially fond of him for being such a terrific neighbor and one of our most illustrious former honorary mayors.”
Short has lived in the Palisades since 1984, serving as honorary mayor from 1998 to 2000.
He is an Emmy- and Tony-winning actor, comedian and author—and his visit to Palisades Branch Library comes at one of the busiest points of his career.
Upcoming projects for Short include filming “Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Anniversary” for ABC, then heading to New York to host “Saturday Night Live” for the fourth time. In 2023, he will return to New York to film the third season of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” which he stars in alongside Steve Martin and Selena Gomez.
Since its release, “Only Murders in the Building” has scored major praise—the show recently earned 17 Emmy Award nominations. Short and Martin were both nominated as Outstanding Lead Actors in a Comedy Series.
“The library is the heart and soul of the Palisades,” Short said, “and I know how much the community missed it when the library was closed due to the pandemic and then the fire. I am pleased to support Friends of the Palisades Library as they work to re-establish our library as a vibrant hub of community activity.”
The program on December 1 will kick off with a reception at 6:30 p.m. with Short.
“The reception is open exclusively to current members of Friends of the Palisades Library,” according to PPLA. “To join or renew your support of the Friends, please visit friendsofpalilibrary.org and RSVP using the event registration page.”
The program will begin at 7 p.m. in the Palisades Branch Library Community Room. Due to limited capacity, those who wish to attend must obtain a complimentary ticket. Those who are not able to attend in-person have the option to tune in virtually.
