St. Matthew’s School has a proud soccer tradition over the years, having kick-started the career of international star Ali Riley and now P.E. teacher Derek Martin is coaching a group of 5th-graders into winners in the Co-Ed Coastal Canyon League. The team won its first five games versus Brentwood (8-1), Crossroads (8-1), Willows (3-1), CCE (2-1) and Park Century (10-0) and has upcoming contests with Calvary Christian, Seven Arrows, New Roads, Echo Horizon and Carlthorp.
“A group of six girls are the heart and soul of the team,” Martin said. They’re doing a fantastic job and they’re good young athletes.”
The Falcons’ roster features Hudson Clark, Avery Kline, Spencer Smith-Davis, Hayden Cwiertnia, Royal Amador, Danny Atari-Cox, Jake Bunn, Benton Chiate, Katherine Eddy, Archie Hoffman, Aniela Houser, Connor Lake, Eva Litter, AJ Martin, Alina Nassi, Asia Parma-Nathan, Hadley Poolman, Emmy Rahn, Evelyn Sitter, Leela Sykes, Arjun Vig, Thomas Villen, Skylar Vo and William Watson.
