April 4, 1925 – August 23, 2019
Herta Luise Leman, age 94, a beautiful, brilliant, giving, loving woman of strength and valor and shining light upon all who knew her, passed away at her home peacefully on August 23.
Born in Monchengladbach, Germany, on April 4, 1925, she and her family survived the hardships of World War II.
In 1945, she met and later married Henryk Leman, her lifetime partner of 65 years. In 1949, they left the ashes of Europe behind them and began an extraordinary journey in Los Angeles, where together they built a successful janitorial maintenance company—Tip Top Cleaners—and invested in real estate.
Herta loved life. She was giving, creative, loved music and literature, and was full of grace. Her garden was always in bloom. Her home was open to all, always paying great attention to detail. She loved children and never lost her childhood innocence. Many called her their “second Mom.”
Herta is survived by her son, Bernard; daughter-in-law Dana; beautiful grandchildren, Talia and Zander, who call her “Omi”; Joy and Daniel Powers; and Jessica, Jaime, and Jenna Lin, who call her “Nana”; and her niece, Barbara Wolfeil.
Herta was preceded in death by her parents, Herta and Paul Poless; her brother Walter; and sister Helga.
Herta is now at peace with Henryk. Those who had the privilege of knowing her are forever better for the time together.
