There were 16 schools running against Palisades in the girls’ Division 1 varsity division at last weekend’s Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational in Walnut, but the one the Dolphins wanted to defeat most was Granada Hills, which beat Palisades by 15 points to win the City Section title last season.
This time the Highlanders took fourth place with 140 points while Palisades was seventh with 190. Granada Hills freshman Sofia Abrego won the 2.93-mile race in 17:57 and Pali High sophomore Miranda Schriver, last year’s City champion, was right behind in 18:11. Palisades junior Sarah Bentey was fourth in 18:34, senior Brittany Darrow (20:03) was 29th, senior Holland Mueller (21:55) was 74th, sophomore Sophia Klotz (22:24) was 81st and freshman Tierney Smith (22:29) was 83rd.
Palisades’ boys placed fifth in their Division 1 varsity race with 156 points, behind Redondo (76), Vista Murrieta (81), L.A. Marshall (105) and Granada Hills (121).
