The first work in the eighth annual Palisades Playwrights Festival is a Stoppardian mixture of comedy, romance and quantum mechanics by lauded writer Karen Howes.
For one night only, on Tuesday, April 10, Howes’ play, “Starry Night,” will be read on stage at Theatre Palisades.
The blurb promises a rom-com with science following a bride to be as she prepares to marry the mythical “perfect man” but as Howes has won many prizes in particular recognizing her gift of translating big ideas and bringing in the human cost, it could be so much more.
Like many Angeleno writers, Howes erases the line between writing for theater, magazines, documentary and stage because she has done it all.
Several of her plays have been selected for festivals, and she has received commissions to write original works for specific theatrical use.
Howes received a degree in philosophy from The College of William and Mary and an MFA in creative writing and writing for performing arts from the University of California.
She is a member of The Dramatists Guild, The Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights, the Los Angeles Female Playwrights Initiative, Theater Communications Group and PEN Center USA.
All of this sounds rather seriously grand but, be assured, it will be a starry night to remember.
