Elementary-school children in first through fifth grade who live or go to school in Pacific Palisades are invited to participate in the 4th Annual Pacific Palisades Spelling Bee, the Pali Bee, on Sunday, Feb. 8 at the Rustic Canyon Recreation Center, which (along with the LA Department of Recreation and Parks) is the presenting co-sponsor of the event. The Palisadian-Post is proud to be the media sponsor for this year’s Pali Bee. Other sponsors include the Pacific Palisades Woman’s Club and Groza Learning Center.
So far, there are 72 students registered from 16 different schools: Brentwood, Calvary, Canyon, Corpus, Crossroads, Curtis, Marquez, Mirman, Pali, Seven Arrows, St. Martin of Tours, St. Matthew’s, Village, Westside Waldorf and Wildwood.
Most of the registrants to date are in first through third grade, and the second grade is almost full. Students in fourth and fifth grade are especially encouraged to participate.
This year’s panel of judges will include Frances Sharpe (Palisadian-Post editor-in-chief), Terri Lyman (president of PPWC), Joan Ingle (Pali Elementary principal), Dr. Alberto Hananel (Marquez principal) and Elaine Mandel Peters (LA Superior Court judge) and John L. Segal (LA Superior Court judge).
For the third consecutive year, the word pronouncers will be Alan Smolinisky (Palisadian-Post owner) and Tim Schneider (Schneider Publishing owner).
To sign up for the Pali Bee, visit www.palibee.com. Registration is $15 and includes a T-shirt if the registration is received by Jan. 21.
