For the past three years, Anthony Marguleas, broker/owner of Amalfi Estates, has been making an annual donation of $5,000 to the Village Green.
Marguleas happily handed over the check by the private pocket park’s fountain on Monday, Jan. 5.
Village Green committee president Marge Gold, director Bob Gold and “President Emeritus” Joan Graves along with Marguleas’ twins Jack and Anna (both eighth-graders at Corpus Christi) were on hand for the presentation.
“I wanted to help something everyone uses,” Marguleas told the Palisadian-Post about the yearly donation. “People take this space for granted and don’t realize how much work goes into it. The least I could do is to ease some of the financial burden.”
Marge Gold, said the money goes toward the park’s fixed expenses, including property taxes, liability insurance, gardening, water and power and general maintenance. She added that the property is not a city park.
“This is a business,” Bob Gold said, adding that the park’s annual fixed expenses reach nearly $9,000.
As for the annual donation, Marguleas said, “I’ll do it as long as I’m able.”
