The Yogurt Shoppe’s “happy hour” fundraising campaign has eclipsed the $26,000 mark, according to co-owners Kevin Sabin and Clive Lewis. The Yogurt Shoppe has been donating 15 percent of its net sales from 5 to 7 p.m. almost since the day it opened in 2011. Sabin told the Palisadian-Post that the “happy hour” fundraising program is now a permanent staple of the shop.
The grand total of funds raised has reached $26,257 with the most recent donations going to the Village Green, GriefHaven and the Palisades Charter High School football and lacrosse programs.
Sabin said he opened the Yogurt Shoppe “not to make money,” but because he felt there was a need for a frozen yogurt spot in the Palisades. He also knew it would provide an opportunity to give back to the community.
“My intention is to keep doing this so we can give money back to the community and provide a great quality product,” Sabin said.
Based on the success of the happy hour program, the owners are starting another charitable effort.
“We just launched our newest Shoppe promotion that raises money for local schools and organizations,” Sabin said via email. “It’s called the Yogurt Shoppe community Partner-Shoppe program.”
The Partner-Shoppe program donates money directly to local schools. The way it works is simple. Every time a customer lets the cashier know which school they are supporting, the Yogurt Shoppe will donate 5 percent of their purchase to that school.
