Franco Gomez, who has worked at Robeks Juice for five years, won the adult pie-eating contest at Sunday’s Village Fair, an annual event presented by the Chamber of Commerce.
“I was on my break and didn’t have any lunch,” Gomez said. sharing his winning tip. “I didn’t even taste the pie; I just swallowed it, but it was still delicious. I think it was a berry pie.” For his efforts he received a large purple ribbon.
Kalani Hildebrand, 12, won the children’s contest. According to her father, Patrick Jr. of Amazing Music, “Her face was down in the pie and she ate the whole thing.” Kalani received a $5 gift certificate to The Yogurt Shoppe on Swarthmore.
Donna Burkons won the apple-pie baking contest and received a gift certificate to Café Vida. Runner-up for the second year in a row was Lee Ann Daly, who took home a red ribbon, and third place was Len Brunelle, who entered the contest for the first time. His mother, Joyce, is the current Chamber president.
