Gabe Galef experienced the cold, hard reality of football in Palisades High’s season opener against Sierra Canyon.

After 12 months of hard work and preparation to be the starting quarterback, the thrill lasted all of three snaps for the senior captain.
“I tried playing through it but they wouldn’t let me go back in,” Galef said. “My first thought was this is like Duane [McBroom] all over again.”
McBroom, a safety, suffered a season-ending injury a few plays into Palisades’ opener in 2014.
Galef was transported to Saint John’s Health Center and learned last Monday he has a torn medial collateral ligament (MCL). It won’t require surgery, but he’ll likely miss six weeks.
“My goal is to be back the first week of league,” said Galef, who underwent platelet infusion Wedneday and hopes to start physical therapy in two weeks. “I’m going to help out as much as I can.”
Galef was back on the sideline on crutches to cheer his teammates to their first win at Sylmar.
