A short hike and a lecture on the mountain lion, sponsored by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, 5 p.m. in Temescal Gateway Park. Attendees should meet at the picnic tables in the front parking lot. The free event will last two hours.
MONDAY, JUNE 20
Palisades Branch Library presents a free screening of the 1962 Western classic ‘The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance,’ starring John Wayne, James Stewart and Lee Marvin, at 1 p.m. in the library’s community room, 861 Alma Real.
TUESDAY, JUNE 21

Culture in the Canyon series hosts Jet Propulsion Laboratory scientist Dr. Marc D. Rayman, who will give visitors a chance to view two giant asteroids, Ceres and Vesta, 7:30 p.m. at Woodland Hall in Temescal Gateway Park. Free admission.
THURSDAY, JUNE 23
Kids event, featuring Derek Taylor Kent reading ‘Scary School,’ 4 p.m. at Village Books on Swarthmore. Narrated by recently deceased 11-year-old Derek the Ghost, ‘Scary School’ details the spine-tingling and outrageous happenings at a school where monsters and normal kids tread the halls together.
Pacific Palisades Community Council meeting, 7 p.m. in the Palisades Branch Library community room, 861 Alma Real. The public is invited.
