Topanga Canyon Gallery is exhibiting “Creative Mix” from September 25 through October 20 at the gallery, 120 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd. An artist’s reception will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 5. The public is invited.
“Creative Mix” features the work of Donna Geist Buch, Farideh Azad and Sharon Tanner. The three artists have joined together to create an inspiring, stimulating and engaging exhibition. Each artist has incorporated her own distinct style, love of color and use of mixed media.
Louisiana native Buch works primarily with acrylic paint, building up multiple layers of luminescent colors and textures with gel medium through an instinctive process. Her large expressive abstract paintings give the viewer not only pause for contemplation, but also a conceptual journey. Her work has been displayed in the U.S. and in Japan.
Inspired by her rich heritage of 2,500 years of Iranian arts and design, Azad divides her time between glass blowing and ceramics, which she has be doing for many years. Her process involves use of strong colors in her glass pieces and carving, sgraffito, inlay, appliqué and glazes to build the beautiful surface decorations of her ceramics.
Watercolor artist Tanner has incorporated collage and other mediums in her newest mixed-media work. An intuitive painter, she responds to what has already been placed on the paper. Though birds hold many symbolisms, in this case they are her muses and a jumping-off place to begin her painting, which are about color, line and design.
