Theatre Palisades Youth will host “Masquerade Cabaret,” a “special fundraising event,” on Friday, October 20, beginning at 6 p.m.
“Please come join us for an evening of musical and dance performances from our youth community,” according to the Theatre Palisades website. “All proceeds will be used towards future youth scholarships, development, and [musical and non-musical] productions.”
Performances will include vocal and instrumental selections, performed by current TPY actors and alumni. The new tap program, led by Rebecca Brancato Barragan and developed as part of TPY’s “Singin’ In the Rain” production, will also be showcased.
“Under Program Director Lara Ganz, TPY produces two full-length musicals each year, along with various one-act and improv performances,” Jon Ganz, a member of Theatre Palisades Board of Directors, explained. “With casts ranging in age from 7 to 17, Ganz endeavors to incorporate exciting elements into TPY shows. For example, past productions have incorporated the use of aerial silks, gymnastics, tap dancing and stage combat.”
TPY operates with a mission of providing a “safe space” for actors to “be inspired,” “develop talents in all aspects of theater arts,” “support each other as they grow their confidence,” “accept themselves for who they are and, by extension, others for who they are,” and “celebrate the essential power of live theater to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.”
Past productions include “High School Musical Jr.” and “Getting to Know … The Sound of Music.”
In addition to the Masquerade Cabaret event, other sponsorship and donation opportunities are available via Ganz at 310-699-3128.
Tickets for the event are $27. The performance will take place at Pierson Playhouse, located at 941 Temescal Canyon Road.
