Animal enthusiasts are encouraged to explore the wondrous world of inquisitive doggy life in “BARK! The Musical” at Theatre Palisades.
The show runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until Oct. 7, and features actors actually playing canines—an inherent burst of humor and joy that caters to audience members of any age.
This “tuneful tribute to dogs and their intrepidly human hearts” invites audience members to “spend the day at Deena’s Doggie Day Care” and hang out with an operatic singing poodle, a street-smart pit bull that raps and an energetic puppy that yearns to bark like a real dog. Of course, there are a few wiser characters to round out the motley crew.
At the production helm are veteran director Susan Stangl and musical director Gary Nesteruk. The book is by Mark Winkler and Gavin Geoffrey Dillard.
Tasked with the role of bringing to life dogs with attitude are actors Julie Hinton, Peter Miller, Marina Tidwell, Greg Abbott, Elena Coleman and Ben Fuligni.
“BARK!” has been performed numerous times in Los Angeles and, in fact, gained the title of third longest running show in LA’s history.
At the renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival where “BARK!” is currently a main stage event, reviews have praised the “marvelous melodic mutts,” “believable portrayal of dogs” and “lovely range of musical tunes.”
Theatre Palisades has truly chosen a beloved story to share with the community. The next show to appear on the local stage is “Parfumerie,” debuting in November.
