Several Palisadians were a part of the 95th Academy Awards, which took place Sunday, March 12, at Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood—including Jamie Lee Curtis, who took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”
“They ask you to metabolize and process a moment like this in 45 seconds,” Curtis wrote in an Instagram post following the win. “In the thrill of the moment, what I would and should have said is to all of my friends and family and colleagues and the many strangers whose goodwill on this night I felt so deeply, I say to you all … WE WON AN OSCAR!”
Curtis was nominated alongside Angela Bassett in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Hong Chau in “The Whale,” Kerry Condon in “The Banshees of Inisherin” and Stephanie Hsu in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” as well.
Riviera resident Steven Spielberg was nominated for Best Directing for “The Fabelmans,” with the prize going to Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert—affectionately referred to as “The Daniels” throughout the ceremony by fellow cast and crew members—for “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Spielberg was also nominated for Best Writing (Original Screenplay) for the film, with Kwan and Scheinert winning.
When it came to “Elvis,” produced by Palisadian Gail Berman, the film was nominated for several awards, including Austin Butler for Best Actor in a Leading Role, Catherine Martin for Best Costume Design, Matt Villa and Jonathan Redmond for Best Film Editing, and Mark Coulier, Jason Baird, and Aldo Signoretti for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
Berman (“Elvis”) and Spielberg (“The Fabelmans”) were both nominated in the Best Picture category for their work producing, alongside producers of “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “Tár,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Triangle of Sadness” and “Women Talking.”
Best Film went to “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” which took home seven Oscars throughout the evening, including three out of the four best acting awards.
