When Westside Aquatics hosted a Southern California Swimming meet called the Blue-Red-White Invitational on November 2-3 at Palisades High’s Maggie Gilbert Aquatic Center, director Tim Murphy was confident his team would represent well.
Yet even Murphy was surprised that 17 of the club’s swimmers posted times fast enough to qualify for the Winter Age Group Championships to be held December 13-15 at East LA College.
“It was huge — over 1,000 swimmers,” Murphy said of the two-day event. “I don’t remember us ever having that many [qualifiers] at one meet. It must be a record.”
Westside Aquatics’ most recent qualifiers were Olivia Baer, Kian Brouwer, Tom Collins, Jake DeFeo, Gabriel Feizbakhsh, Cole Heine, Alex Kahn, Amanda Kim, Allie Landecker, Jordan Leaf, Michael Lukasiak, Tristan Marsh, Zach Profozich, Leah Timmerman, Mardell Ramirez, Rose Walker and Ethan Webster.
