There is plenty of fun in store for youngsters this summer at Palisades Recreation Center.
New Senior Facility Director Jasmine Dowlatshahi shared that she is proud to report signups are underway for Summer Sports Camp, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays from July 5 to August 12 for kids ages 5 to 14.
Space is limited and there is a $25 registration fee, which includes a camp T-shirt.
The first week (July 5 through 8) will feature basketball with a Tuesday field trip to Will Rogers State Beach. During week two (July 11 to 15), there will be basketball with a Tuesday field trip to John’s Incredible Pizza Co.
Week three (July 18 to 22) will feature baseball and softball, with another Tuesday field trip to the beach. Week four (July 25 to 29) includes baseball and softball, with a Tuesday trip to Knott’s Berry Farm.
The fifth week of camp (August 1 to 5) will feature soccer with a Tuesday field trip to Will Rogers State Beach. And finally, during week six (August 8 to 12), there will be soccer with a Tuesday field trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain.
Palisades Recreation Center is also offering a $140 six-week Summer Ballet Series with Miss Carmen in the small gym (dates are June 14, 21, 28 and July 5, 12, 19).
Pre-Ballet 1 (ages 3 to 4), which will be an introduction to dance, will meet from 11 to 11:30 a.m. The class will focus on qualities of movement; leotard and slippers are required.
Pre-Ballet 2 (ages 5 and 6) will be from 12 to 12:50 p.m. The class will be a continuation of concepts introduced in Pre-Ballet 1, including beginning identification of ballet positions.
Beginning Story Book Ballet (ages 6 to 8) will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. This class will focus on expanding dance movement vocabulary, terms and techniques, and concepts of choreography.
