If your child is going to learn jazz, why not have them study with one of the best, Pacific Palisades resident Gregory Alper?
For the first time, Alper is holding week-long summer jazz immersion camps for students ages 8 to 15. Students will work on ear training, jazz theory, history and ensemble playing.
Youth will learn the tools to improvise and hone their skills by playing with pre-recorded tracks and live professional musicians. Students will also learn repertoire and the language of jazz.
All instruments are welcome and the week culminates with a final concert performance by participants.
Alper, an acclaimed saxophonist, recording artist and composer, performed on the New York City jazz scene. He has composed music for Warcraft, and has recorded five CDs, including the critically acclaimed “Fat Doggie,” recently re-released by First Hand Records.
Alper, has taught improvisation at UCLA Extension and leads the jazz band for Childrens Music Workshop Honor Orchestra. He also teaches year-round at his studio in Marquez Knolls.
His camps, which run Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., start June 25, and continue July 8, 15, 22 and July 29.
The cost is $495/week, or $445 if paid prior to 30 days before start date. Lunch is included.
