A new water fountain was unveiled at Canyon School on Sept. 5. The line was tremendous just to take a sip from the new fountain that offered filtered water. Before, students at Canyon had non-filtered water and if they brought their water bottle and filled it, the water would be wasted. Barely any water came through and went into the bottle. Almost 400 kids were complaining, but all that had changed.
“We entered a contest called ‘Bag it!’ where we collected plastic bags to make shoes instead of having the bags go into the oceans. The video we made won a fountain,” said Beth Preminger, who helped bring the fountain to the school.
The new fountain did make a difference in our school. Our new principal, Nicole Sheard, drew a name from a hat to choose who would be the first student to fill his or her water bottle from the new fountain. Fifth-grader Diego Sosa was absolutely thrilled to be first student to fill a brand new water bottle. This is why we got this fountain, to bring joy to the lives of many.
“In the past, many students would not drink out of the old fountain because of bad rumors. Now, the perception has changed and students are drinking fresh water again,” Preminger said.
