Ed Sheeran, Van Morrison Among UCLA Health Fundraiser Performers
By SARAH SHMERLING | Editor-in-Chief
On Aug. 17, one Palisades home opened its doors to UCLA Health for a private musical fundraising event: Backyard Concert 2018.
Ed Sheeran, Roger Daltrey and Van Morrison, as well as special guests, headlined the bill. This is the fifth private concert in a series that started nearly 10 years ago to raise awareness and funds for the program.
The previous four events alone raised almost $10 million, with funds going to support the UCLA Health Autism Program, Daltrey-Townshend Teen and Young Adult Cancer Program at UCLA and Teen Cancer America.
“Backyard Concert 2018 will continue to build on this momentum to provide transformative care of kids, teens, young adults and families impacted by the frightening diagnoses of cancer or autism,” the invitation read. “Your support of this event will fund a multitude of programs, services and resources.”
Festivities included a selection of food, as well as cocktails featuring Patron tequila. This year’s event was hosted by Master of Ceremonies Judd Apatow and featured auctioneer Howie Mandel.
Live auction prizes included a day with Palisadian and former Honorary Mayor Sugar Ray Leonard, a Buddy Holly limited edition acoustic guitar signed by top music icons and an autographed Desert Trip Concert poster.
Funds raised at the series will go toward the Teen Cancer America and UCLA Health.
An estimated 800 people attended the sold-out backyard bash, with tickets starting at $4,000.
